I've just had such a

I've just had such a fun day!! non-stop, heaps going on ... it was fantastic!! the Starlight Express Room is wonderful!! I just love it! I was sitting in there this morning and for some reason I just couldn't help but smile! I'm not even sure why - I guess somehow the atmosphere just made me want to smile =). it's a very happy place! love it!! can't wait to go back!! I've signed up for the next two Saturday mornings, and I'm really looking forward to spending more time there! I only got to stick around for another hour or so after the training, and had so much fun in the short time! met some really sweet kids and had all kinds of fun playing computer games and stuff with them! got big hugs when I left =).

after that was Mamma Mia ... all can I say is, wow! such a fantastic show! not really like any other musical I've seen, which I think had a lot to do with the audience. it was such an unusual audience ... so different to the typical audience you get at a musical! everyone was getting so into the show! which I was totally expecting, after everything people have told me. but still, it was kind of different experiencing it first hand. we had rather dodgy c-reserve tickets, which meant way up in the 2nd balcony ... but even up there people were so enthusiastic!! I've sat in similar seats many times (usually rush tix or something, for a show I've already seen) ... and until now I've always found the upper circle audiences to be far less enthusiastic, and terribly quiet!! but that definitely wasn't the case today!! to the point of the upper circle being up on their feet and dancing along far before anyone in the stalls!! lol! it was fantastic!!

there was a real buzz in the city today! I love it when the city feels so alive like that! there was heaps going on, and so many people in there for the River Festival!! crowds were insane, and there were people hanging out at Southbank all day waiting for RiverFire (the fireworks tonight). I met up with friends for dinner around 5.30, and we headed over to Southbank about 45 minutes before the fireworks started ... the entire riverfront was packed!! so funny! we got a somewhat decent view though, and although it was nothing like what I remember from last time I went, the fireworks were still gorgeous =).

so that was my fantastic day =). the whole day made me smile ... first the Starlight Express Room, then Mamma Mia, then dinner, and finally the fireworks ... very smiley stuff ;). ohh, plus the frap I had after Mamma Mia of course =).

hey =) so the weekend

Posted by Larina at 11:18 PM on Friday, 30 August 2002 | Comments (0)

hey =) so the weekend is finally here! this has been such a long week ... yesterday I felt like I wanted to just crawl up and hide, I was so exhausted!! but I made up for it last night with some really decent sleep! yay! and now I'm all excited about the weekend! so much on, I hope I don't end up just as exhausted at the end of it! it's all tomorrow though, so I've still got Sunday to recover =).

tomorrow morning I'm going in for the Starlight Express Room training, then I'm meeting a friend for lunch at Southbank, and after that we're going to see Mamma Mia! and after that, I might be meeting up with some other friends and sticking around for RiverFire!! yay! I only just realised that RiverFire is tomorrow night! I knew it was coming up, and I knew there was something on at Southbank tomorrow night, but I didn't put it all together *rolls eyes*. I'm not that useless though, there are about a million things on at the moment for the River Festival, so it really could have been anything tomorrow night! but I love RiverFire ... so I'm so impressed! over 30 minutes of fireworks to music on the Brisbane river ... it's gorgeous!! huge, insane crowds, but heaps of fun =).

meanwhile, time for a little plug =). new site just opened ... go visit and say hi!! and if you have a little web space free, I'm sure the owner would appreciate a host =).

okay, now it's Friday Five time!

1. What's your favorite piece of clothing that you currently own? ohh, I don't know! maybe my new suede jacket?

2. What piece of clothing do you most want to acquire? heaps!!! more shoes!! especially flat shoes at the moment ... I need them for work! ohh and I really need to get some new sunglasses, does that count?

3. What piece of clothing can you not bring yourself to get rid of? Why? my short black boots. they're so old ... practically falling apart! but they're so comfortable!! I'm afraid I still wear them. I should really replace them ... I can totally justify the expense! but it's almost Spring now, so it seems a little silly!

4. What piece of clothing do you look your best in? lol! I have no idea!!

5. What has been your biggest fashion accident? I hate to think!

anyway, I better get to bed! I still need sleep!! 'night =).

arghh is the week nearly

Posted by Larina at 9:55 PM on Wednesday, 28 August 2002 | Comments (0)

arghh is the week nearly over? surely it is! I'm so exhausted ... totally ready for the weekend!! I had my interview at Starlight earlier tonight ... the volunteer coordinator is so nice!!! the interview was actually pretty fun =). right at the end, she asked me for three words to describe myself ... I had no idea what to say! she thought "bubbly" would suit me ;). lol! I don't think I've ever been described as "bubbly" before! but hey, works for me =). I'm so excited about the whole thing though!! I guess that was kind of shining through!

so I indulged a little today ... I actually had two frappuccinos!!! perhaps making up for the lack of fraps since I got back home? ;)

we had a rather disruptive day at college today. had our first lecture as per usual, but after that we all piled into cars and went to visit the Kidsafe House near the Royal Brisbane Hospital, to learn about making the home environment safe for young kids. anyway, we finished that rather early, but we were no where near transport and all the people who'd come in my car needed to get to a train station ... so I dropped them in the city. of course, I managed to pull up right out the front of the Myer Centre Starbucks!!! then somehow managed to convince one of my passengers to get me a frap (they totally offered!) while I drove around the block ;). worked so well!! apart from the insane city traffic flow making "around the block" a little difficult ;). but I headed out of the city with a delicious Rhumba frap in hand =).

then just in case one wasn't enough, when I arrived at the building where the Starlight office is, I discovered that there's another Starbucks at the bottom of their building!! keeping in mind there's only like, three Starbucks in all of Brisbane (and until tonight I'd only been to the Myer Centre one) ... I found the discovery rather exciting =). so after my interview, of course I had to get another frap ... Mocha Rhumba this time =). yumm!!

of course, now I've had two coffees in the last eight hours, and I usually don't drink any! so sleeping tonight may come a little slowly. oh well, better get to bed anyway! I have to leave at like, 6.45 tomorrow morning!! eek!!

lol!!!!!!! I love Rove Live

Posted by Larina at 10:46 PM on Tuesday, 27 August 2002 | Comments (0)

lol!!!!!!! I love Rove Live ... it's so funny! not always, but it definitely has it's moments! Matt Damon just did this weird demonstration thing, where he took Rove's Logie off him (similar to an Emmy, only from here!). anyway, afterwards, they were like, congratulating him on getting a Logie ... and Matt did this brilliant impersonation of an emotional acceptance speech. so funny!! then they did the thing where you bite on your pinky fingers for like, 30 seconds, then link them together and pull ... absolutely excrutiating pain apparently (I've seen the reactions, never tried myself! I'm not that silly!). anyway ... very funny results as well!

okay, I should really stop with the pointless relaying of the show! especially since you really have to see it all to appreciate it! however before I go, I must let you all know that apparently Matt Damon was once abducted by aliens ;). bye for now!

Posted by Larina at 10:32 PM on Tuesday, 27 August 2002 | Comments (0)

from LuLu's site, quoted from somewhere else:

"i want to know why i'm wasting my time in school? i go to school to get a degree, i need a degree so i can get a good job, i need a good job to get money, i need money to get happiness? but, i thought i was happy now and don't they say that money doesn't equal happiness... so what the hell am i doing and why am i doing anything?"

seriously, how logical is that!? society seems to have this bizarre view that that trail (degree - job - money - happiness) is the only acceptable path to actual success and happiness. I don't get it! happiness is happiness!! so really, the path should be about whatever makes you happy! why should that necessarily mean money? that's a rather shallow view really. but if you try to fight the acceptable path, people get some warped impression that you have failed in life *rolls eyes*. society can be so strange!

anyway, there's my in depth for the week =). watching Rove at the moment ... Matt Damon is on. I love how every single international guest comments on the m&ms ;). Matt's comment immediately after the m&m discussion was "this is so much better than any American talk show" ;). lol! you bet!

hey =) so apart from

Posted by Larina at 8:41 PM on Tuesday, 27 August 2002 | Comments (0)

hey =) so apart from not having a lot of time, I really don't have much to say tonight! college was fun - laughed heaps (like usual). work was good, same as usual =). no Smallville tonight, not impressed! watching the Felicity repeat instead though. I have my Starlight interview tomorrow after work, yay! one interview that I don't find intimidating at all! and it's in the city, which means I get to go to Starbucks afterwards =). lol, I'm so pathetic! anyway, nothing much else to say! except I completely forgot the Seven on Sunday, so here it is =).

Seven famous people you'd like to engage in stimulating conversation with:

1. Hugh Jackman
2. Nicole Kidman
3. Lucy Maud Montgomery
4. Matthew Reilly
5. Anne Geddes
6. Matthew McConaughey
7. Baz Luhrmann

okay, that was extremely rushed ... probably be completely different if I had a little more time to think!

and being Tuesday, I can't forget This-or-That!

TV shows you may have watched as a kid:

1. Sesame Street or Captain Kangaroo? Captain Kangaroo? should I have heard of this one? definitely watched Sesame Street.

2. Muppet Show or Fraggle Rock? ohh, watched them both! did anyone ever play the Fraggle Rock board game? used to love it! I probably preferred watching the Muppet Show though.

3. He-Man or Jem? neither.

4. The Smurfs or Muppet Babies? loved the Smurfs!! still do ;).

5. Archie or Josie & the Pussycats?? didn't really watch either ... perhaps Archie occassionally.

6. H.R. Pufnstuf or The Banana Splits? neither sorry, but I used to watch Bananas in Pyjamas ;).

7. The Partridge Family or The Brady Bunch? lol, not really a fan of either, although I have seen more than enough Brady Bunch episodes!

8. Happy Days or Welcome Back Kotter? both a little before my time, but I kind of liked Happy Days.

9. Punky Brewster or Small Wonder? totally watched Punky Brewster!! I wanted a bed like hers!

10. The Facts of Life or Silver Spoons? never heard of either, sorry.

okay, better go =). bye!!

I'm about to go to

Posted by Larina at 9:56 PM on Monday, 26 August 2002 | Comments (0)

I'm about to go to bed ... how impressive is that!? it's not even 10pm yet! figured I'd probably need all the sleep I could get this week ;). I got some rather interesting mail today! apart from the less than thrilling phone bill, and a really cute hand written letter from a friend in Melbourne (love hand written letters!!), I got a "Notice to Prospective Juror"!! apparently I've been "selected at random from the electoral roll and ... may soon be summoned for jury duty"!! eek!! I can probably get out of it though, because of study and work committments. I hope so, I don't really feel like being juror! I guess it could be interesting, but could be kind of scary too!

ohh, I rang my prac family tonight ... baby was born last monday afternoon as expected, and everything went well! yay!! I'm start prac again Thursday, can't wait!!

not much else to tell! I've got a late start tomorrow - 9am instead of 8.30 ... yay!! we're doing play & learning first up, which is the fun subject! not sure what we're doing yet, but I'm sure we'll enjoy it =). can't remember what we're doing in the afternoon ... child development maybe, but I could be wrong. anyway, better go!! 'night =).

so it's sunday night again

Posted by Larina at 7:32 PM on Sunday, 25 August 2002 | Comments (0)

so it's sunday night again already! how does that always happen so quickly?? I need another weekend ... I'm not ready for the week to start already! and even just thinking about this week is exhausting me *rolls eyes*. oh well, hopefully it will be a fun week as well =).

you'd think by now I'd have my assignment finished hey? but no ... I'm so good at procrastinating! I do it unconsciously, it's rather ridiculous! I'm basically finished though ... it's all typed up and printed and ready to hand in, but I haven't proof-read it yet, and I still have to make a sample party invitation. actually, that's half done too ... I've just got to cut it out and stick it on some coloured card, maybe add a few stickers or something, then attach it to the assignment. still, I should have finished by now!

I spent most of today baking! yes, I actually cooked ... not a common occurence, and there's a very good reason for it! I'm not exactly very good at it ;). of course, that's probably at leastly partly because I don't do it very often, but whatever!

today's attempt was actually quite amusing ... to the point of being extremely embarrassing! I didn't read the recipe properly, and put a 1/4 of a cup of milk, instead of 3/4 of a cup ... not good! didn't realise until the mixture was already in the cake tin *rolls eyes*. so figuring the extra milk was probably important, I poured it into the tin and tried to mix it in there ;). lol, I'm so silly! the tin was one of those ones that you can take the outer edge off, so of course the milk just started leaking out on to the bench! oops! oh well ... got it into the oven finally and it came out alright =). I guess that's the main thing!

anyway, I better go finish this invitation, considering it's due tomorrow! ohh, I have to email the lady from Starlight too! I really should do that! and perhaps stop thinking out loud ;). bye!

hey hey =) so the movie is over. I must confess, I totally didn't follow the storyline at all ... that's how much I wasn't paying attention ;). but it was still cute! brought back all kinds of memories from when I used to watch the cartoon years and years ago! go go gadget mobile ;). hehe. anyway, I'm going to go read for a while I think =). 'night!!

so I guess I'm starting to make up for the lack of posts over the last week ;). all kinds of random blogging happening now! I'm watching Inspector Gadget at the moment ... so cute ;). I was actually considering seeing this one at the cinema, but it never happened. I never realised Michelle Trachtenberg (aka Dawn) was in it! playing Penny too ... Penny rocks! anyway, I'm missing it ... so I might go! back later =).

so I've been rather neglecting the online quizzes lately ... thought I better throw a couple in! I've actually been taking more, but posting them straight to my main site ... results here if you're interested!

which literary heroine are you?

Josephine 'Jo' March is perhaps the most loved of the March sisters (from Louisa May Alcott's 'Little Women', 'Good Wives', 'Jo's Boys' and 'Little Men'). Jo is an aspiring writer, a headstrong tomboy and a loving sister. Generous to a fault, she puts the needs of others above her own and carries on the legacy of her doomed sister and best friend, Beth. To be compared to ambitious, devoted Jo is the greatest compliment - just promise you won't let YOUR Laurie go!

hey again =) so my

Posted by Larina at 11:12 PM on Friday, 23 August 2002 | Comments (0)

hey again =) so my sister managed to steal the internet connection before I got back, so the delay ended up being slightly longer than expected. decided to fill my time by watching this week's ep of MDA. I'm still enjoying it! feels like I'm the only one though ... all the articles I've read in the paper have been totally bagging it. they said some rather nasty things in the Green Guide yesterday. *shrugs* I don't know ... maybe I'm insane ;). the cast really impresses me though (I'm still enjoying watching Angus Grant each week!), and of course it's set in Melbourne, which I guess is a major draw for me! I guess the storylines can be depressing at times, but they don't really bother me like that *shrugs*. oh well, whatever.

meanwhile, definitely enjoying Marshall Law as well =). although I was kind of expecting to ... the cast is great! and it's set in Melbourne =). I'm so addicted to Melbourne-based tv at the moment! and there's so many great Melbourne-based shows! it's fantastic! Secret Life might not be on screen anymore, but there's still MDA, Marshall Law and Stingers =). lol! all on at 9.30 on Tuesdays, along with Rove *rolls eyes*. ohh, I'm enjoying White Collar Blue too! even though it's Sydney-based. wasn't so sure after the first ep, but it's kind of growing on me. not definite yet, but I'll probably keep watching. besides ... it's taken over the Secret Life timeslot, so that time is already devoted to tv anyway ;).

okay, I'm pathetic. two rather huge paragraphs totally devoted to tv. how sad. ohh, so kind of exciting news! I'm doing a training for the Starlight Foundation next weekend!! remember ages ago I mentioned how I had to apply again because the Melbourne office couldn't find my file? well I did all that, and I've got to go in for a short interview sometime next week (yet to figure out when that's going to happen), then Saturday morning I'm doing a short training thing for the Starlight Express room! I'm so excited!! for anyone who doesn't know, Starlight Express rooms are basically rooms in hospitals for the sick kids to just hang out in, and escape the typical hospital stuff. the one in Brisbane is just new, and hopefully I'll be volunteering in the room relatively soon! I can't wait!!

of course, that's assuming I'm still functioning by next Saturday morning ;). this coming week is going to be so exhausting! it's actually my first full week! college Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8.30 to 2.30, prac Thursday and Friday from 7.30 to 2.45ish, and work Monday - Friday from 3 - 6. and on top of that, I've got stuff on Monday night, and somewhere I've got to fit in an interview with Starlight (probably after work sometime, Tuesday or Wednesday maybe). and I've got to be in the city at 9am Saturday morning for the training. I'll be there all day too, because I'm going to see Mamma Mia on Saturday afternoon. so I'll probably be dying for a sleep-in by Sunday ;).

I'm exhausted now, and I didn't even have prac this week! next week is going to be crazy! I did fill up the time though ... this morning I almost finished my assignment that's due Monday. Wednesday night I met Nikki for coffee (don't get to see her nearly enough!), then had lunch with friends from work (old work, not current work) yesterday, preceded by a little retail therapy. ohh, nearly forgot ... I bought the dvd of Someone Like You =). total impulse buy ... but it was only $23, so I couldn't just leave it there ;). watched it last night, still love it =). such a cute film!! although I watched the deleted/extended scenes on the dvd ... I think I might prefer the alternate ending over the one they ended up using! in the film it's always seemed a little rushed at the end. the alternate ending seems more realistic somehow (in a totally fictional way of course). Eddie doesn't run away, awww =). and Jane doesn't apologise! the apology always seemed unnecessary to me. I don't know, I think I need to watch them both again before making a definite decision. definitely liked the alternate one though =).

anyway, I think I've rambled for far too long tonight already! I'm terribly sleepy, so I might get another early night. ohh, or I might read for a while! I'm totally getting into The Two Towers! so many people have told me that it drags the most out of all three volumes, but I haven't noticed it at all yet! admittedly, I'm not far in yet, but so far so good =).

ohh, nearly forgot the Friday Five:

1. What is your current occupation? Is this what you chose to be doing at this point in your life? Why or why not?

I'm a student, studying a Cert II in Children's Services (Child Care) at a private college. not exactly what I chose to be doing, but only because I had no idea and never actually chose anything. I'm definitely happy with the final choice though =). won't be a long-term thing, but will hopefully get me overseas for a while! and assuming I keep enjoying it, I might head into early-childhood education at uni. a friend suggested the idea of teaching at an international school somewhere, which could be interesting!

2. If time/talent/money were no object, what would your dream occupation be?

probably a travel writer and photographer, although I'm not really sure anymore!

3. What did/do your parents do for a living? Has this had any influence on your career choices?

my dad's a communications officer for an electricity company (not entirely sure what that entails exactly), and my mum's a teachers' aide at the local primary school. neither have really influenced me that much.

4. Have you ever had to choose between having a career and having a family?

so far, no.

5. In your opinion, what is the easiest job in the world? What is the hardest? Why?

I guess the best way to answer that is to say the easiest job is the one you just love to do. if you love something enough, it's going to seem like easy work! and similarly, if you hate a job, it's going to seem like the hardest.

anyway, time to go I think =). 'night all!!

hey =) so I should

Posted by Larina at 8:25 PM on Friday, 23 August 2002 | Comments (1)

hey =) so I should probably warn you early that I feel like rambling tonight! this could go on a while ;). and it's potentionally going to be extremely random! it's been a while since I blogged, which seems to be quite a common trend lately. my time seems to be escaping far too quickly, and I'm coming home so exhausted all I'm concerned with is going to bed! rather tragic really, but I am enjoying myself, so I guess that's the main thing =).

random comment #1 ... I have to mention, the moon looks so stunning tonight! lol, I know ... strange thing to mention. I did warn you about the random thing!! ;) but it just looked gorgeous when I was driving home earlier, I had to comment! it was like, a full moon, so really big and really yellow too!! totally looked like cheese ;). it's been cloudy the last few nights, so I guess that might be why I noticed it so much tonight *shrugs*. anyway, it's very pretty=).

we've had three straight days of rain here this week ... all day tuesday, wednesday and thursday it rained, which is rather exciting for Brisbane! we don't get all that much rain! in fact, I don't remember any other rain since I got home in May!! although that can't be right, I'm sure it rained some time, it is winter after all. not much though! rain in Brisbane is so different to rain in Melbourne. I mean, in reality it's no different ... but the feeling is just completely different! people get so excited here when it rains! it's like, a change ... something we look forward to!! the traffic goes insane though! Queensland drivers can't deal with rain! it took me like, an extra 20 minutes to get to college just because of the rain ... soo many accidents and everything just goes crazy. but there's just a buzz when it rains, it's hard to describe! it stopped raining overnight though - nice and blue and sunshiny again today.

hmm, I have to go eat! fish & chips, yum =). I'll be back later with some more random ramblings ;).

is it really two days

Posted by Larina at 10:34 PM on Tuesday, 20 August 2002 | Comments (0)

is it really two days since my last post? it seriously feels like it couldn't be more than one!! although I haven't stopped for a second, so perhaps that's why. having heaps of fun at college though! a couple of completely practical days ... always more fun than the theory =). yesterday we made playdough and gingerbread men, as well as a little rather amusing sewing ;). and today we made really cute glove puppets, and this morning had a music class (singing and dancing!! lol!). loving it!!

anyway, I'd love to write more, but I really need some sleep! the non-stop thing gets rather exhausting, especially when the last two weekends have felt much the same. however before I go, I'll quickly throw in this week's This-or-That. topic for the week - "Classic Toys & Games".

1. CandyLand or Chutes and Ladders? I don't remember CandyLand, but I imagine Chutes and Ladders is the same as Snakes and Ladders, which I enjoyed.

2. Barbie or GI Joe? lol! confession ... I had barbies ;).

3. Play-Doh or Silly Putty? playdough! discovered yesterday that I still love playing with it =).

4. Lincoln Logs or Tinkertoys? neither sound overly familiar, sorry. are they anything like Lego? I loved playing with Lego!! and Mechano too.

5. The Game of Life or Monopoly? loved them both! in fact, still enjoy them both on occassion! so this is a tough one. I'd probably pick The Game of Life I think. maybe? not sure though.

6. Etch-a-Sketch or Lite-Brite? never heard of Lite-Brite ... but I used to enjoy Etch-a-Sketch.

7. The Slinky: metal or plastic? lol!! I was having this discussion the other day at college!! I had a metal one, and my sister had a plastic one. my one used to get tangled heaps more than hers, so I'd probably say plastic. although my metal one did the stairs thing much better!

8. Easy-Bake Oven or Sno-Cone Machine? ohhh, I love sno-cones!!! but I never got to play with a Sno-Cone machine. or an Easy-Bake Oven for that matter, so I guess I'd go for the sno-cone machine =).

9. Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars? Matchbox ... my dad has heaps of them ;).

10. Spirograph or Paint-by-Numbers? Spirograph, totally!! I used to love mucking around with my Spirograph! I have no idea what happened to it, but it was certainly well used!

anyway, time for bed!! 'night =).

hurrah! I'm excited! I've just convinced Narelle that she needs a website! although I must say, it didn't take much convincing ;). anyway, I'm going to help her with a layout of some kind =). lol ... I'm so pathetically excited about it ... I think she thinks I'm insane ;). actually, no, she already knew that! but anyway!! okay, I was supposed to be in bed hours ago! and I'm starting to ramble unnecessarily ... so I should go! before I start making even less sense ;). 'night all!!

4. Flight Centre (or some other travel agent)
5. Starbucks
6. HMV

so I'm having all kinds

Posted by Larina at 2:26 PM on Sunday, 18 August 2002 | Comments (0)

so I'm having all kinds of fun planning my imaginary kids birthday party =). theme chosen: 'Down in the Garden' ... for a little girl's 5th birthday, so butterflies, fairies, flowers, etc. found a gorgeous butterfly birthday cake that looks fantastic and relatively easy to make. and now I'm working on games and activities and stuff, as well as food, prizes and decorations. any suggestions are more than welcome ;).

I've found a website that is pretty useful actually ... www.birthdaypartyideas.com ... heaps of suggestions from others who have used different themes (what they did, what worked, what didn't). although I can't help but roll my eyes at all the people who finish up their entry by saying "and all the mom's were so impressed". who cares!? the party is for the kids, not the parents!! I pretty much only care if the kids were impressed! *rolls eyes* oh well, some great ideas all the same!

yay!! weekend is finally here

yay!! weekend is finally here =). actually, partially over already, but that's okay - I haven't wasted it entirely! I went to the library this morning to borrow books about kids birthday parties and cakes and stuff (so I can start working on my assignment) ... and discovered that it's been so long since I used the library that my record had disappeared from the computer! oops! oh well, can't help it if I've been living in another state ;).

actually, I made a rather exciting discovery at the library! like I said, I was looking for books on parties and stuff, and noticed on a shelf just near by "The Anne of Green Gables Treasury". I'd heard people mention it, but never actually seen it. it's such a gorgeous book!!! I've only really flicked through it, but loving it so far =). obviously I had to borrow it ;). there's maps, and time lines, recipes, lots of explanations ... it's making me want to read the Anne books all over again =). I never realised that Anne was born eight years before L.M. Montgomery!

meanwhile, I noticed it's been quite a while since I've done a questionaire type thing, and last week's This-or-That has caught my attention =). I've noticed it quite a few times while updating my fanlisting and webring! so here are my responses:

1. Dr. Seuss characters: the Cat in the Hat or the Grinch? the Cat in the Hat.

2. "Anne of Green Gables" or "Little Women"? Anne, definitely! although I love Little Women as well!

3. Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys? I'm afraid I never read either.

4. Winnie the Pooh characters: Tigger or Eeyore? Eeyore!

5. Which author: Judy Blume or Beverly Cleary? again, I've never actually read either.

6. Roald Dahl books: "Charlie & the Chocolate Factory" (Willy Wonka) or "James & the Giant Peach"? Charlie & the Chocolate Factory!! I love it!

7. "Harry Potter" or "The Wizard of Oz"? dearly love them both!! so it's difficult to choose one, but probably Harry Potter.

8. Curious George or Madeline? I love Madeline!

9. "A Wrinkle in Time" or "Little House on the Prairie"? Little House on the Prairie.

10. Dr. Seuss again: "Horton Hears a Who" or "The Lorax"? no idea! don't know either.

children's literature is so fantastic!!! I enjoy kids books just as much as grown up ones ;). I was having this exact conversation with some mums after school yesterday!! one of the girls had an Enid Blyton book that brought back all kinds of memories =).

anyway, I think I may start planning this imaginary birthday party!! hope everyone's having a fantastic weekend!!

so life isn't slowing down

Posted by Larina at 10:40 PM on Wednesday, 14 August 2002 | Comments (0)

so life isn't slowing down at all!! which I'm not complaining about, but it is exhausting me a little! I came home last night and basically went straight to bed!! got up again to eat something and set some vcrs, then tried to watch Charmed but fell asleep! Ekka eve last night too, and I didn't do a thing ;). oh well. enjoyed the holiday today instead. funky holiday too ... Ekka wednesday is a public holiday in Brisbane city, but where I live is actually just out of the "city", so we had the holiday here earlier in the week. of course, I study and work in Brisbane city, so I had today off, while everything around here was still open!! works quite well =). so I managed to catch up on a little rest, and spent most of the afternoon at the shops. yay!

I phoned my prac family this afternoon, and they seem really nice!! I meet them tomorrow afternoon, and I can't wait! two boys, one 4 1/2 years old, the other 22 months ... and another one due this coming Monday!!! I knew prac meant getting experience with a young baby ... but I didn't realise I'd be working with a baby this young! I'm really excited though!! should be interesting! and hopefully fun too =). I'm sure I'll learn heaps!

anyway, I have no idea what else I was going to say. I'm sure I must have other news, but I can't think of anything! so I'm going to go to bed instead ;). 'night!!

wow! what a weekend! I'm

Posted by Larina at 9:42 PM on Monday, 12 August 2002 | Comments (0)

wow! what a weekend! I'm so exhausted!! I feel like I'm still waiting for the weekend to come, but no ... it's actually monday and it's all over already! ::sighs:: it's crazy! I definitely can't complain about not having anything productive to do! I'm filling up my time more than successfully now!

my sister came home from uni for the weekend, like she usually does. she got home sometime friday afternoon ... and we were both so busy we didn't actually see each other until Sunday morning! despite sleeping in the same house for the two previous nights ::rolls eyes::. rather bizarre!

so what have I been doing to keep myself so busy? friday night I got to catch up with some of the people I used to work with, which was really nice! different people to the ones I usually catch up with too (a different section, not my own ... but still friends!). great night, and thankfully not too late because my cold was still hanging around a little (very happy to report that my cold now seems to be practically gone!! yay!).

saturday I spent some time at the shops, and the rest of the day doing homework and watching a little tv. then saturday night I was babysitting (same kids I look after during the week). sunday I went shopping again ... although I'm afraid to say Brisbane hasn't really caught on to the whole Sunday trading thing ... it seemed so quiet at the shopping centre I went to! got to catch up with Leigh and Narelle for coffee though, which was nice! we decided to give Gloria Jean's a try ... can't say I'm much of a fan though! give me Starbucks any day ;).

and last night I finally watched the Lord of the Rings dvd I bought last monday ... all the special features followed by the movie =) ::sighs::. loved it! again, of course ... it's so brilliant! and I'm so excited about seeing The Two Towers now!! I'm finally going to start reading the book now too. I was going to start reading it sooner, but decided to wait until I'd seen the first movie again. hopefully I'll still have time to get through it before the second movie! I usually read quite quickly - thoroughly, but relatively quickly! however I seem to take forever to read Tolkien. can't explain it, just fact. still, four months should be heaps of time!!

okay, I'm sure there's a million and one other things I could mention, but I'm so tired! I think perhaps I should get some sleep instead! more tomorrow night hopefully! bye!!

I don't believe it! I'm

Posted by Larina at 7:40 PM on Thursday, 8 August 2002 | Comments (0)

I don't believe it! I'm getting another cold!!!!! arghh!!! this is so unlike me ... I don't usually get sick! or not very often at least! I didn't miss a single day of uni or work all last year. ugh! not impressed! I'm all stuffed up in the head, and my nose won't stop running ... very annoying! oh well, this time I won't muck around! I've been taking cold & flu tablets all day, and trying to be careful! hopefully it won't last 4 weeks this time =).

had heaps of fun at college today!! we spent the afternoon painting!! my finger nails are still stained from the paint ... I'm yet to get at them with a scrubbing brush. basically we were just getting creative ... mucking around with different types of brushes, sponges, paint consistencies, stuff like that! and learning different techniques, different stuff you can do with paint! it was so much fun! then after that we were doing finger painting with shaving cream! lol! it was hilarious, but fantastic fun! definitely going in my folio of ideas.

anyway, I think I need sleep more than anything at the moment! although we've got a late start tomorrow!! yay!!! don't have to be at college until 9.30 ... so I can sleep in for an hour =). still, I might try to get an early night all the same!

ahhh I'm so tired!! well,

Posted by Larina at 7:26 PM on Wednesday, 7 August 2002 | Comments (0)

ahhh I'm so tired!! well, not completely ... I'm not exactly going to fall asleep on the keyboard, but I'll definitely sleep well tonight! another fun day at college! although all class work today. same as yesterday actually, but yesterday was orientation and stuff as well, so it wasn't so noticable.

still, class work isn't all bad ... I'm just looking forward to the more practical stuff!! the self defence and so forth, and making play-dough and fun stuff like that ;). one of the subjects we do is called play & learning! and starting next week we spend thursdays and fridays on industry placement ... definite hands on stuff there! most likely with a tiny little baby too! awww =).

ohh, after LuLu's guestbook entry, I thought I better clarify my comments from last night! for anyone who doesn't know, "Kiwi" is another word we use to refer to New Zealanders ;). I didn't realise that wasn't a familiar term for everyone ... sorry!

anyway, not much else to tell, and plenty to do! so I might run away now =).

well, it's official, I'm not

Posted by Larina at 11:21 PM on Tuesday, 6 August 2002 | Comments (0)

well, it's official, I'm not completely stupid =). I got 117, which means I'm a little above average (and apparently in the top 25%). they said the test was designed around an average of 100, so 90 - 109 is considered an average IQ ::shrugs::. whatever.

as for the more interesting stuff! right- and left-handed averages were both 110! in state averages, Queensland got 111, compared to Victoria on 107, and capital cities - Brisbane 112, Melbourne 107. yeah! the ACT and Canberra topped each - although apparently no politicians participated ;). I'm afraid to say, males averaged 112 while females averaged 108.

and the groups in the studio ... they only gave us percentages, but I'll share all the same! at the bottom, the Kiwis on 44%! and climbing up the ladder - blondes 58%, builders 62%, twins 63%, students 64%, celebrities 65% and finally, on the top ... the teachers on 71%! and on that note, I'd like to point out that my percentage was 79%!! ;)

ohh, no way!! I got beaten by Fatty! a footy player ::rolls eyes::. he got 127!! sheer luck I say! still, I did better on the emode IQ test ... 136 ;).

okay, I should definitely be in bed!! live tv - always runs overtime!! 'night all!!

if it wasn't so funny

Posted by Larina at 10:13 PM on Tuesday, 6 August 2002 | Comments (0)

if it wasn't so funny watching all the results, I'd be getting so annoyed at how much they're drawing this show out! it's ridiculous!!! but it's funny, so I guess it's not so bad. after 50 questions I'm on 84%, which compared to everyone in the studio isn't too bad. the Kiwi's are only on 38% ... lol!! next after them is the blondes I think, or maybe the builders, on 60%. the teachers are at the top on about 73%. so yeah, I rock =). of course, we're yet to get to the reasoning section answers ;). that's going to pull me down I think!

so the test is over!

Posted by Larina at 9:29 PM on Tuesday, 6 August 2002 | Comments (0)

so the test is over! still to check all the results, so as yet have no idea how I went ... and I have no idea what to expect! guessed more than I would have hoped, and in multi-choice questions that can turn out so many different ways ;). oh, answers coming now!

Posted in: Uncategorised

lol! this thing is so

Posted by Larina at 9:10 PM on Tuesday, 6 August 2002 | Comments (0)

lol! this thing is so weird!! we're almost done ... one more section to go. I totally sucked at the first half of the reasoning section!! ie number sequences. ::rolls eyes:: I got the first two within a second, but totally guessed the rest! oops! lol! ohh, back on! learning section now! back soon =).

hey =) thanks for comments

Posted by Larina at 7:35 PM on Tuesday, 6 August 2002 | Comments (0)

hey =) thanks for comments guys! I had a great time at the course today ... I can tell I'm going to have so much fun doing it! one of the assignments is to plan a kids birthday party and make a birthday cake =). how cool is that!? and all the other girls (yes, all girls!) in the class seem really nice! yay!

anyway, I'm going to have a go at that IQ test on channel 9 tonight. yep, I'm pathetic huh ;). but also intrigued! and it's just started, so I better go! wish I wasn't so sleepy, but we'll see how it goes! bye!!

so I really should be

Posted by Larina at 12:00 AM on Tuesday, 6 August 2002 | Comments (0)

so I really should be in bed, considering I have to get up early ... but I've just finished watching The Manchester Dump. very funny stuff! Roy & HG do the Games commentary thing so well! I don't think they'll ever match their Sydney Olympics attempt, but they still seem to tap into the bizarre Aussie patriotism thing, where we just love to laugh at ourselves ;). or others, depending on who's screwing up at the time ;). they mentioned the Sydney Olympics mascots again tonight ... I'd completely forgotten about them! and Fatso!! ahh, the memories ;). I should really get the dvd's of The Dream.

ohh, speaking of dvds!! I bought the Lord of the Rings dvd today!!! yay!!! it's not supposed to be released until tomorrow, but I was at the shops today and it was already there!! so who's complaining? ;) works quite well for me actually, because I was a little concerned about when I'd get a chance to go to the shops! haven't had a chance to watch it yet ... looking forward to checking out all the special features though! ohh, and I'm so glad it's not a boxed set thing, like Harry Potter or Moulin Rouge. don't get me wrong ... the boxed set thing is gorgeous, and I definitely appreciate it the first time I open the box ... but after that it just gets annoying! takes that much longer to get to the discs ;). oh well, I'm sure that will be coming with the next Lord of the Rings release in November, which incidently I also plan to get! decided to go for the 'buy both' plan ... figured I could kind of justify it =). especially now that I'm working again!

work was fun today! spent part of the afternoon looking through the show bag guide with the boys. the Ekka starts this weekend ... and the show bag guide was in the paper on Saturday. I remember taking the guide to school when I was little, and studying it with friends, trying to figure out which show bags to spend all my money on ;). the boys were able to let me know which were the best value and which to avoid, so I've pretty much worked out which ones I need ... not that I actually intend to go to the Ekka, or therefore buy show bags, but it's still an important consideration at this time of year ;).

anyway, I need to get some sleep! I should probably go! although before I do ... did everyone see the photo of Pat Rafter, with his girlfriend and their tiny little baby Joshua ... how cute!?!? such a nice picture!! in the paper this morning they labelled him the tennis champ of the future ::rolls eyes::. oh, and what about the size of that rock on Lara's finger!? on the radio this morning they phoned the Rafter house and spoke to Pat's mum and sister ... noone revealed anything though, just talked about how adorable Joshua is =).

okay, I really need to go now!!! first day of my course tomorrow! I'm so excited! I had to buy felt pens and colouring pencils ... sounds like fun to me =).

hey =) how classic is

Posted by Larina at 9:20 PM on Monday, 5 August 2002 | Comments (0)

hey =) how classic is the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony .... absolutely pouring with rain and they're still not holding back! lol! can't help but laugh! makes me think of this saying I saw on a card once ... "some people walk in the rain, others just get wet" - these performers certainly aren't just getting wet!! my Dad reckons it's just a warm up for Melbourne ;). but that's not fair ... it doesn't rain that much in Melbourne! especially not in summer! oh well, funny all the same.

ohhh, and I have to share - one of the commentators pointed out that if Ian Thorpe were a country, he'd be ranked 10th!!!! how impressive is that!? what a talent! Thorpe rocks!! anyway, gotta go!

so the weekend is already

Posted by Larina at 8:25 PM on Sunday, 4 August 2002 | Comments (0)

so the weekend is already over =(. I can't believe it's Sunday night already. I stuck to my original plan, and did nothing all weekend! feeling pathetically lazy now, but at least a little relaxed! which is good, considering starting Tuesday I'll be leaving home at around 7.30 in the morning, and won't get home until after 6 at night. it's making me tired just thinking about it! although I shouldn't be too concerned, it's really no worse than I used to do when I was working full time! just got lazy at uni ;).

I hired Amélie last night, as planned =). it's such a cute film ... I love it!! and when I was at the video store I noticed Serendipity was also out, so picked it up as well! love that film too! it had a commentary as well, although it wasn't a particularly exciting one. some of the deleted scenes were interesting to see though. a few of the scenes from the beginning of the film which they shot really early, they ended up reshooting after they'd shot everything else ... and the end results were so much better!! ohh, and the whole ice skating part at central park, with the snow and christmas lights and everything ... that was shot in july!! it was all totally created.

well, I don't really have much else to share. I think I might get an early night tonight ... despite doing nothing (or perhaps as a result of), I'm still feeling sleepy! and I've got a list of stuff I have to do in the morning, so no chance of sleeping in again until next weekend! hope everyone has had a nice weekend =). 'night!

hey hey =) so I just redesigned my fanlistings page! I've been meaning to for a while ... starting to love those 50x50 buttons more and more =). so my fanlistings page is now all pretty buttons! like it should be ... half the reason I started joining fanlistings was because of the funky little buttons!! it's about time I got rid of the far less attractive and way too boring text links! end result can be viewed here! =)

you know that song, I

Posted by Larina at 4:49 PM on Saturday, 3 August 2002 | Comments (0)

you know that song, I have no idea what it's called ... "feeling hot, hot, hot!" etc ... the one they play over the credits at the end of Bend it Like Beckham. well everytime they play it on the radio (like right now for instant), I suddenly feel like going to the movies to see Bend it Like Beckham again!! lol, yep, I'm tragic! I know!!

hey, I haven't blogged for a couple of days! oops! I guess I've been kind of busy =). went to Narelle's for lunch on Thursday, then worked all afternoon, and went to bed really early Thursday night. then yesterday I had to go over to the college to drop off some forms so I can get paid next week, went shopping at Garden City for a while, then work. and after work I rushed home, showered and went straight back out again. I picked up Leigh-Ann then we went to Dicey's for drinks, dancing, etc with Alicia and Bernie - they're heading over to the UK on Monday (yes, I'm jealous!!). it was heaps of fun, but I didn't get home 'til late. so that's my exciting couple of days =). I've been completely lazy today and basically done nothing ;) ... making the most of my last couple of free days before my course starts.

I'm considering going and hiring Amélie tonight ... I think it's out now, so hopefully I should be able to get it! the rest of my family haven't seen it yet, and I could certainly handle seeing it again =), hmm, I should probably go do that soon!

so I just spent an

Posted by Larina at 11:15 AM on Thursday, 1 August 2002 | Comments (0)

so I just spent an hour or so up at my old primary school speaking French to year 7 kids!! it was pretty funny!! they're having a French breakfast next week, so they're learning all the words associated with breakfast. I was getting them to tell me what they wanted for breakfast, and stuff like that. and I had cards with French words and cards with English words and they had to match them up. it was actually really fun. the kids were funny, and I had to laugh when some of them started asking for butter and jam with nothing to put it on ;). "un lait au chocolate, du beurre et de la confiture s'il vous plaît." hmmm. lol! oops.

anyway, going out for lunch now ... so I better go!! bye!!
