hey =). so I haven't

Posted by Larina at 11:12 PM on Sunday, 30 June 2002 | Comments (0)

hey =). so I haven't blogged for a while hey? not properly at least. no real reason ... I've just been lazy. it's my sister's birthday today, but we didn't really do much. made some poffertjes, they were yummy! and had cake too =). that's about the extent of the day's excitement though ;).

I finally saw I Am Sam the other night ... it was so sweet!!! practically everyone in the cinema was crying! and it was surprisingly full too, considering how long it's been out. such a gorgeous story, and the little girl, Dakota Fanning, was fantastic!!! little kids who can act always impress me!

I also saw A Walk to Remember, which I really enjoyed. it's a beautiful story. predictable, but that didn't take anything away from it. Jamie is such an inspiring character! I wish I could be more like her!

as much as I enjoyed it though, I have a feeling the book must be far better. not that I'm especially criticising the film ... the acting was fantastic, casting perfect, it was all great! it just didn't seem to flow as well as I'd expected ... it seemed a little rushed. which I guess is inevitable, when you have to fit an entire book into a little over an hour and a half. I'm definitely planning to read the book though! I probably should have read it first, I usually would have ... but ran out of time.

anyway, I probably have more to share, but I can't think what! so I'm going to go to bed and read for a while I think! 'night!

Friday Five When was the

Posted by Larina at 5:52 PM on Saturday, 29 June 2002 | Comments (0)

Friday Five

When was the last time you...

1. ...sent a handwritten letter? I sent a birthday present with a short note attached a couple of weeks ago ... does that count? as for a real letter (ie over a page long), I sent a couple just before I left Melbourne in mid-May. despite how much I love email, I still love handwritten letters too!

2. ...baked something from scratch or made something by hand? that's a kind of scary thought! baking doesn't really happen for me ... at least not from scratch! I used to make heaps of stuff by hand, but nothing recently! I made some bookmarks sometime last year ... that could potentially be it! but no .. I refuse to believe that's the last time I did something with my hands! I just can't think of anything else at the moment!!

3. ...camped in a tent? too long ago! umm, probably 97 or 98 ... I can't even remember!

4. ...volunteered your time to church, school, or community? also too long ago! the Good Friday Appeal at Easter I think. ohh, no ... St John ... but I can't remember when my last duty was! I quit when I left Melbourne. I've really got to organise some more volunteer work! I'm not used to not doing anything! I'll probably volunteer for Starlight again, that was fun!

5. ...helped a stranger? oh, I don't know! when we were up at Noosa on Monday a couple asked us to take a photo for them ... but Ashley ended up taking it, so I'm not so sure that counts!

Thursday Threesome Onesome: Soak --

Thursday Threesome

Onesome: Soak -- Like a sponge, what class in school did you seem to absorb the easiest?
the easiest ... tragically, that would probably be maths! that doesn't mean I enjoyed it ... it just came easily to me! I didn't really have any trouble understanding it. same with accounting (probably for similar reasons).

Twosome: Up -- What things always bring you up when you are down?
talking to friends, chocolate, music, time out in front of the tv, shopping, sleep!

Threesome: The Sun -- Enjoy the sun? What's your favourite outdoor activity?
yep, I enjoy it! but I burn so easily I often try to avoid it! I love horse riding though! I don't get to go nearly as often as I'd like!

arghh!!! I'm so over Felicity!!

Posted by Larina at 12:05 AM on Thursday, 27 June 2002 | Comments (0)

arghh!!! I'm so over Felicity!! what has happened to it? it used to be such a brilliant show ... but this season has just been a disaster!!! I keep clinging to it ... hoping it will eventually improve ... but it's just not happening!!! *rolls eyes*

I don't get it! why did she have to get back together with Ben? I could totally see it coming ... but still! the way I see it, Ben is the fantasy! the guy she dreamed about in high school, the guy she followed across the country ... the guy that was supposed to turn out to be all wrong!! meanwhile Noel is the real "fantasy" guy ... unexpected, but perfect! sure, she can be tempted by the original fantasy ... but she should still end up with the real one! besides, Noel is just adorable!

I think the current plan - I'm just going to ingore the fact that the final season ever happened ... the entire thing has been a disaster! and in the meantime, I'll enjoy the first season repeats on fox =).

in other news ... what's the deal with the State of Origin!?? so not impressed! a draw!?!? that's such a non-result! *shakes head* I mean, Queensland at least gets to keep the title, so I guess it's not all bad ... but a draw!? who can get excited about that? hmph. and we have to wait an entire year for a re-match.

ohh, has anyone else seen the channel 7 promos?? how fantastic are they!? all the behind the scenes shots ... they're so funny!! I love them! anyway ... time to sleep! 'night!

What's Your Goddess Identity? You're

Posted by Larina at 2:39 PM on Wednesday, 26 June 2002 | Comments (0)

What's Your Goddess Identity?
You're a Muse!

Known for your creative powers, you Muses are the poets and musicians of life, the patrons of the fine arts. It's funny, though - even with your inspirational prowess, you're probably not the type to boast about your guitar-strumming skills, or your latest published book of verse.

While it's great when people flock to you for ideas, there probably is a part of you that prefers to blend in sometimes - whether dressing in muted shades or staking out a one-on-one conversation at parties and social events. But try as you might not to hog the spotlight, others can't help but notice you. Must be hard to be such a goddess!

Despite any lingering modesty, you might be surprised at how much your mere presence can help improve the lives of those around you by infusing them with ideas and good thoughts. With that kind of healing energy, your inspirational ways have the potential to change the world, Muse. Whether you're scribbling sonnets, boogying with your friends, or drawing your own constellations - you're tapped in. So keep your eyes wide open to the possibilities and let that inspiration flow!

so I've finally found time

Posted by Larina at 12:30 AM on Wednesday, 26 June 2002 | Comments (0)

so I've finally found time to turn my computer back on!! it hasn't been on since saturday night ... so unusual for me! it's been a busy few days! heaps of fun though =). and exhausting ... I'm so ready for bed!! however I'm watching tv, so I figured I'd multitask and do a little writing at the same time!

before I go on, I have to thank my gorgeous friend Rachael, for this lovely birthday sign:

thanks Rachael!! I love it!! and for anyone wondering, yes .. that's me! a picture I don't think I've even seen before! gorgeous, creative work Rach ... thanks!!

I'm a little late, but I also want to start the week with some Participation Positives:
- so many wonderful friends!
- heaps of text messages, emails and birthday wishes on sunday!
- a fantastic weekend with a visiting friend
- beautiful weather!
- dinner with friends on Friday night
- my cold finally seems to be giving up!
- a new job opportunity to consider
- I finished a roll of film yesterday, so now I can get it developed
- lots of great presents to enjoy!

something else I didn't get a chance to do ... the Sunday Seven:

Seven Favourite Book Characters:
1. Robyn (the Tomorrow series, by John Marsden)
2. Rilla (the Anne novels, by L.M. Montgomery)
3. Walter (the Anne novels, by L.M. Montgomery)
4. Bridget (Bridget Jones's Diary, by Helen Fielding)
5. Harry (the Harry Potter series, by J. K. Rowling)
6. Novalee (Where the Heart Is, by Billie Letts)
7. Eddie (Animal Husbandry, by Laura Zigman)

and also ... This-or-That

1. Spam...the lunch meat. Yes or no? no!

2. The traffic light is green as you approach, but by the time you get there, it has turned yellow. Stop or go-go-go? totally go!

3. You are taking a trip...you have to decide whether to fly or take some sort of ground transportation. High or low? definitely high!

4. Someone asks you a question about why something is, and you don't know the answer. Try to find out "Why" or just say "I don't know"? "I don't know". if it intrigues me, I might investigate "why" ... depends what the question is.

5. You are at the mall, and you spot someone who tortured you when you were in high school. Hello or goodbye? depends on them. if they recognise me, I might stop and say hi. *shrugs* guess it depends how I'm feeling at the time ... I really don't mind either way.

okay, I think that's all the overdue stuff out of the way! now just some random blogging! I feel like I haven't stopped for the past few days! which is a little crazy and unusual of late, but heaps of fun! one of my American friends has been visiting for a few days, so I've had a great time showing her around and doing the touristy thing! the weather has been typically beautiful, so we made the most of it and visited the Gold and Sunshine Coasts =). I'd forgotten how gorgeous the beaches are up here ... especially around Noosa! we really are spoilt I think! sadly, Ashley left this afternoon ... so now life returns to normal again!

I finally went and saw Star Wars tonight!! took me long enough hey ;). over a month since it opened ... I'm so slack! I was meaning to watch the other four before going to see it ... but that didn't even happen! I loved Episode II though! and I think I pretty much followed the story from what I could remember and what my sister explained to me. I'm still going to have to watch the others though! probably have to go back and see it again after then.

not much else to tell really! I had a great birthday on Sunday! it's so much nicer being home with my family for my birthday! I mean, last year was great ... all the people on my floor were fantastic, birthdays were always big for us ... and someone always made a cake =). but it's still not the same as being at home! I also got some great presents! I doubled my DVD collection ... my sister got me The Wedding Planner, and my parents got me Breakfast at Tiffany's and the entire first season of The Secret Life of Us! plus I got jewellery, and chocolate, and money ... among other stuff! I can't complain =).

anyway, I'm sure there's more to tell ... but it's getting late! I'm watching the tennis, but it's a little cool, so I might crawl into bed and watch from there!! assuming I don't fall asleep like last night!

one more blog before going

Posted by Larina at 11:40 PM on Saturday, 22 June 2002 | Comments (0)

one more blog before going to bed! I'm so tired!! I'm still getting over this stupid cold, so sleep is rather high on the priority list at the moment!

just went to see Scooby-Doo ... it was so cute! not really my kind of humour, but I totally enjoyed it! it made me laugh ... so that's the main thing! I totally wasn't planning to see it at the cinema, I was going to wait - but it was fun, and therefore worth it. plus I bumped into a couple of friends from high school who I haven't seen since graduation (about 4 1/2 years ago!!), so that was pretty cool!!

ohhh, and we got to see the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets trailer!! and not just the 30 second teaser trailer ... it was a full trailer, heaps longer than the one I've seen at HarryPotter.co.uk. and it looks so fantastic!! I can't wait to see the movie!

okay, so I just checked, and they've put the full two minute trailer up here! (I really should check more often I guess). it still looks better on the big screen though! ohh, I want to read the books again!

anyway, I should get to bed, before my cold gets any worse!

Friday Five 1. Do you

Posted by Larina at 6:20 PM on Saturday, 22 June 2002 | Comments (0)

Friday Five

1. Do you live in a house, an apartment or a condo? a house

2. Do you rent or own? neither ... I live with my parents. as soon as I start working again I'll probably be paying board though.

3. Does anyone else live with you? my mum and dad, and my sister on weekends and during the holidays (when she's not at uni). oh, and all the pets of course.

4. How many times have you moved in your life? umm, well I've lived at six different addresses, but if you count moving back home for summer, I've moved seven times.

5. What are your plans for this weekend? well it's already half over, considering I'm doing this late again! but last night I went out for dinner with friends for my birthday. then today I picked my friend Ashley up from the airport, watched some tv while she caught up on some sleep, and then I showed her around a little. after dinner we're going to the movies, then tomorrow we're going down to the Gold Coast to enjoy the lovely weather, go shopping and go to the beach! (yes, despite the fact that it's the middle of winter! I love winter in Brisbane!).

I've created a new layout

Posted by Larina at 7:05 PM on Thursday, 20 June 2002 | Comments (0)

I've created a new layout for my quotes site!! and I've named it ... "l'Esprit d'Espoir", which (I think) means "the spirit of hope". someone in my French class earlier this year told me about this really cute French expression "tu as l'esprit d'escalier", which basically refers to how you never think of an answer until it's too late ... or in a way, the answer you think of on the stairs once you've left. cute hey? so that's kind of where I got the idea for the name from. indirectly of course.

anyway, let me know what you think of the layout!! I used one of my own photos, one that I took in Melbourne last year ... so I really hope other people like it too!!

Posted by Larina at 1:32 PM on Thursday, 20 June 2002 | Comments (0)

so I just made a kind of cute discovery! the French word espoir, which means hope ... when it's combined with chimérique, ie espoirs chimériques, it means wild hopes! cute huh? maybe it's just me ;).

talking about discoveries ... I found out last night that we can finally buy haagen-dazs ice cream here in brisbane!! i have no idea how long for ... considering i haven't really been looking for the last 18 months or so, but anyway! of course, shortly after that discovery, i made another rather depressing one .... it's now a discontinued line *rolls eyes*. i think i got the last tub of bailey's ice cream in the store! typical!

Posted by Larina at 7:28 PM on Tuesday, 18 June 2002 | Comments (0)

This-or-That

1. Popcorn at the movies: buttered or not? I'd totally preferred buttered, but it's generally not available ... so usually I end up with not.
2. Sometimes you feel like a nut..sometimes you don't...Mounds or Almond Joy? ummm, never heard of them!
3. Chips or pretzels? chips! corn chips preferably.
4. Milky Way or Snickers? either are good ... but preference is probably with milky way.
5. M&M's or Reese's Pieces? never heard of reese's pieces ... so that makes it m&m's!! love m&m's!! especially the plain ones.
6. McDonald's or Burger King? macca's, totally! give me a happy meal any day ;). I love the fries, and nuggets! ohh, and sundaes (despite how disgusting the soft serve is!)
7. Vanilla Coke or Pepsi Twist? so much of this stuff isn't available here! or if it is, I haven't seen it! haven't tried either of these ... don't particularly want to either.
8. Hostess Twinkies or Cupcakes? haven't tried twinkies, but I love cupcakes!
9. Hershey's Kisses or Hugs? haven't tried hugs, love kisses though!
10. Original Mountain Dew or Code Red? haven't tried code red, so I guess original? don't usually drink mountain dew though.

okay, it's time for a

Posted by Larina at 7:14 PM on Monday, 17 June 2002 | Comments (0)

okay, it's time for a serious blog! be warned ... this could result in endless rambling ;). and there's no promise it's going to have a point!

firstly ... like I mentioned last night, I've redesigned chimérique ... take a look, and let me know what you think!

I also received this gorgeous award from Ahna-Lei ... thanks so much Ahna-Lei! I love it, and I'm so glad you enjoyed visiting my site!

Lulu .. I don't think I know anyone else who signs a guestbook quite like you do! you practically wrote an essay! but thanks sweetie =). it's great! you always get me thinking! I've said that before right? don't worry, you never bore me with your "raving loonyness" ;).

I like what you said about freedom, and how the need to get a job and earn money traps people, but how breaking free from that only traps you by poverty. you're so right ... it's win/lose, and I want win/win too! I can totally see the logic in getting a set of "kickbooty qualifications" ;) ... and sacrificing the freedom now. I just wish I knew what type of qualifications I want! I totally can't see the point of sacrificing anything to get quals that won't necessarily lead to a place I want to be later on. *rolls eyes* it's so complicated!

the way I see it, the most important thing is to be happy. I guess that's basically my ultimate goal. because really, if you're not happy, what's the point? of course, the key is to figure out what it is that's going to make me happy. if I knew that, the rest would be easy! even if what I decide is going to be happy requires years of study and sacrifice, at least I'd be motivated by the promise of later happiness ... make sense?

then again, I totally believe in the concept that "happiness is a journey, not just a destination" ... so along with the promise of later happiness, you have to remember to make sure you're enjoying yourself along the way! sure, you can sacrifice freedom ... but just make sure you're having fun at the same time!

anyway, there's my insight for the day! in other news, I went to Movieworld on Friday, with my sister!! she got a half price coupon from uni, so the cost was actually almost reasonable ;). our timing could have been slightly better ... we just missed out on the new Scooby Doo roller coaster! but we still had fun. the Harry Potter experience thing was actually pretty cool!! I expected it to be entirely dodgy, but it really wasn't! I've got so many photos!! I'll post them sometime (probably when I get the new photo album sorted out). I also bought a fantastic half-size Lord of the Rings poster, which I love!! it's the one with all the characters on it .. it's gorgeous!

I hired some dvds over the weekend too ... and I have to share thoughts =). I finally saw America's Sweethearts, which I loved!! I figured I probably would. brilliant cast, and really cute! I watched the deleted scenes afterwards ... and there was one I have to complain about! they showed Eddie with that girl Leaf (Hal's daughter) ... apparently Eddie had an affair with her just after discovering that Gwen was cheating on him. I'm so glad that scene got cut!! that totally would have changed my entire impression of Eddie! poor guy! luckily the preview audiences all reacted the same way ... I'm so glad!

meanwhile, I think I might be analysing it a little too much - I realise it's just a film - but I love how they kind of emphasised the differences between what was real, and what was fake. there's the glamarous, publicised, misinterpreted, manipulated fake stuff (ie Gwen's world), and at the same time, they showed (as much as a romantic comedy can) the real stuff .. the raw and honest reality. I guess Kiki's world, and also Hal's film. kind of effectively highlighted the important things in life. okay, I'm getting rather deep again! I just thought it was an interesting reminder to keep life real.

I also hired The Princess Diaries ... such a cute film! but I have to confess, I think in her situation, I wouldn't have thought twice about taking my rightful place as princess ;). there were a couple of commentaries too .. I only got to listen to the one by Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway, but it was really cool!

okay, this post has gone on for way too long! I did mention that I was likely to end with pointless rambling ;). still, I'm going to go now! besides, Friends is starting soon =). if you're still reading ... thank you! and why? ;)

Sunday Seven ... yes, it's

Posted by Larina at 4:43 PM on Monday, 17 June 2002 | Comments (0)

Sunday Seven ... yes, it's late again! oops!

Seven worst movies you've seen...

okay, I have to begin this by saying I hate making a "worst" list ... it feels so mean! I don't even have dislikes in my bio! besides which, if I don't enjoy a film, I tend to just forget it. but all the same, I'll give it a go. these are in no particular order, and I'm not saying they're all necessarily bad movies ... just not the sort of films I enjoy.

1. Mean Streets (1973)
2. Taxi Driver (1976)
3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992)
4. Spice World (1997)
5. Billy Madison (1995)
6. Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997)
7. What Lies Beneath (2000)

okay, that was hard! and I'm sure I've forgotten plenty of films which I enjoyed even less than these ones .. but it's too depressing thinking about bad films ... so they'll just have to do!

it's so time for me to post ... it's been ages! and I've actually got stuff to blog about as well! but I'm in the middle of creating a new layout for chimérique, and I don't want to stop just yet ... I'm having fun ;).

it's just started raining though! I mean, real rain ... practically torrential! it's fantastic!!! I love rain like this! and I love being able to hear it on the roof!! you don't get that living in an apartment ... the roof is too far up, separated by like, entire floors! anyway, it sounds fantastic! I hope it lasts!

Thursday Threesome Special Edition: CLUE

Posted by Larina at 5:48 PM on Thursday, 13 June 2002 | Comments (0)

Thursday Threesome

Special Edition: CLUE - The Answer: Miss Scarlett in the Library with the Lead Pipe.

Onesome: Miss Scarlett, what makes your face turn red?
at times, anything! I can get embarrassed pretty easily sometimes! alcohol can quite often do the trick as well. and the sun .. I burn so easily!

Twosome: The Library. What books are a must in your opinion for a personal library?
ohh, lots!! John Marsden's Tomorrow Series. the Anne novels, by L.M. Montgomery. the Harry Potter books! some classics definitely, Jane Austen maybe. Tolkien - the Lord of the Rings and the rest! oh there's so many others! basically every book I've ever enjoyed! if I like something, I figure I'll read it again ... so I need to own it! ohh, and of course a decent dictionary! and an atlas (I love maps!).

Threesome: The Lead Pipe. Ever have a plumbing related woe? Tell us all about it...
actually, no .. not really!! I think the pipes burst in my parents ensuite once, but I wasn't here at the time ... so it didn't really affect me! the worst I think I've had to deal with is a dripping tap (touch wood!).

so I finally finished going

Posted by Larina at 12:47 AM on Thursday, 13 June 2002 | Comments (0)

so I finally finished going through all my cliques, fanlistings and webrings - updating and letting the owners know of my new address. it took forever!! well, probably wasn't helped by my constantly losing interest and doing something different ;). oh well, it's all cleaned up now as well! deleted all the ones that no longer exist and changed links where necessary. I think I should feel like I've achieved something, but it really just felt like a huge waste of time. which I guess in a way it was, but oh well.

just watched the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets teaser trailer a few more times ... it looks so fantastic!!! Dobby rocks! we get it half a month later that the UK and USA again though ... not impressed. not surprised, but equally unimpressed. I think I might have to read the books over again sometime soon. I'm getting caught up reading some fantastic books by a young Aussie author Matthew Reilly though ... they are so fast paced!! the first one, Contest ... all but the first chapter or so lasts for less than 5 hours! and it's a fairly decent sized book, over 400 pages!

anyway, I better go. it's getting late. I have a feeling that as soon as I try to lie down I'm going to start coughing uncontrollably again, which I'm really not in the mood for! maybe I'll be lucky though I suppose!! and if not, I've got the new ep of Felicity on tape ... I'll just watch that =).

Posted by Larina at 11:46 PM on Tuesday, 11 June 2002 | Comments (0)

I love Rove!! such an insane show! always leaves me laughing! I can't believe what they get away with! but what was up with Lara Flynn Boyle tonight?? was it just me, or did she seem really drunk? or is that just what she's like? okay, so she might have been having mic issues ... but she still came across totally vague! maybe I'm just being harsh! meanwhile ... poor Mirabai!! how funny was that!? *rolls eyes* and the charades! lol!!

hmm, ok, time for bed! I think I'm getting better!! even went out today =). went to the movies ... I saw The Hard Word, which was pretty good. typical Aussie film though ... practically all the faces were familiar from somewhere! hehe, oh well .. doesn't matter. ohh, and another piece of random information .. Delta started on Neighbours tonight!! I knew she would be soon, didn't expect it tonight though!

anyway, really do need sleep!! 'night!

This-or-That 1. Regular or electric/battery

Posted by Larina at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, 11 June 2002 | Comments (0)

This-or-That

1. Regular or electric/battery operated toothbrush? regular
2. Shower or bath? shower
3. Automatic dishwasher or hand-wash dishes? hand-wash (although I'd prefer a dishwasher!)
4. Paying bills: online or write out checks? online - I don't have a cheque book
5. Laundromat or your own washer/dryer? own! when I'm at home anyway. when I was renting we had a communal laundry which wasn't too bad ... only a small building, so it worked well.
6. Electric or gas stove? electric - my dad works for an electricity company, so we get discount. I kind of like cooking on gas though!
7. Subscribe to magazines/newspapers or buy at newsstand? prefer to subscribe for newspapers, but with the student cards it's cheaper not to. always get magazines at a newsagent or wherever, because I don't get them every week.
8. Alarm clock...music or buzzer? usually my mobile phone, because I haven't got around to setting my stereo yet. when I do ... it will be radio.
9. Go grocery shopping yourself, or order stuff to be delivered? when I'm living alone - myself. my mum usually does the shopping though.
10. On workdays...pack a lunch or eat out? when I was working, I tended to eat out (usually subway ... it was closest!). occassionally I'd pack a lunch, but eating out gave me an excuse to leave the office! at uni though, generally try to pack a lunch ... money factor comes in then ;).

you'd think I'd be asleep

Posted by Larina at 2:09 AM on Tuesday, 11 June 2002 | Comments (0)

you'd think I'd be asleep by now huh? especially with me being sick and all *rolls eyes*. but hey .. that's logical! and I'm definitely not! besides ... being sick totally screws with my internal clock! I sleep all day and, well, cough all night .. seems to work better!

so I'm running late with the Sunday Seven ... surprised?

The seven best birthday gifts, memories, experiences you've had:

1. my 18th birthday - because of time differences it lasted around 30 hours, starting in the air somewhere near Bangkok, and finishing on the top of a mountain in Switzerland with the most spectacular view of the surrounding area!!
2. my watch - I got it from my parents for my sweet 16th, and it's engraved so I'll never forget. I wear it practically every day. 3. my 21st - not a huge party like most people have, mainly because I was in Melbourne at the time and all my family and lots of friends were up in Brisbane, but it was fun night!
4. my 4th birthday - in New Zealand with my grandparents ... they threw a combined party for my sister (she was 2) and I, and invited lots of kids we barely knew ... it was heaps of fun! 5. a trip to Paris - while I was in Europe (just after my 18th) my great-uncle sent me on a four day bus trip to Paris, which was amazing!
6. my signet ring - from my grandparents, I can't remember which birthday it was for ... but I love it! a gold heart with a tiny diamond, and an L engraved on it - I wear it nearly every day.
7. most importantly, being able to spend every birthday with fantastic people who I love!!

I've also decided to start taking part in participation positives ... thought it was a sweet idea! to post a list of positives and start the week on a positive note. of course ... I'm already late! but monday was a public holiday this week ... so it's kind of not so bad right? oh well, here goes:

- I get to see my parents every day, and my sister on the weekends
- I found a wonderful new host
- my birthday is in less than two weeks
- one of my American friends from Melbourne Uni is visiting in a couple of weeks
- I have heaps of books to read, and even time to read them
- my cold seems to be improving, and I'm not coughing too much
- I didn't get sick until I was at home
- I have a new guestbook design that I love
- it's going to be sunny and warm tomorrow
- I have fantastic friends!! spread all over the world

wow, I feel like I could go on and on! I love this idea!!! anyway, despite my recent oversleeping, I'm starting to feel a little sleepy ... so I'm going to get some zzzzzz I think!! 'night!!

well, as you've probably figured

Posted by Larina at 12:57 AM on Sunday, 9 June 2002 | Comments (0)

well, as you've probably figured out by now ... I've been hosted!!! thank you so much to Alicia from fakewings.net!!! love you girl!! Alicia's been one of my affiliates for ages ... and I'm so happy to be joining her and the other hostees at fakewings.net!!

hopefully I'll find the inspiration for a new site design sometime in the near future to celebrate! but in the meantime I have got a new guestbook design! let me know what you think =).

anyway, it's getting rather late, and considering my current health ... I should definitely be in bed by now!! my voice was completely gone this morning (and as a result our movieworld adventure was postponed). being sick does such weird things to my internal clock!! I sleep most of the day, feel awful in the mornings, but at night start feeling kind of okay again! *rolls eyes*.

'night all!

I've lost my voice =(.

I've lost my voice =(. not impressed! it's not completely gone, but as good as! *rolls eyes* I went to the movies last night (to see Spiderman ... pretty good! not sure about the ending, but otherwise I loved it!) ... and the prolonged period of silence just seemed to make it worse! hopefully it won't last long .. I'm going to Movieworld tomorrow with my sister ... I think I'll probably need the ability to scream! ;)

Thursday Threesome Onesome: Parsley -

Posted by Larina at 9:20 PM on Thursday, 6 June 2002 | Comments (0)

Thursday Threesome

Onesome: Parsley - does anyone really cook with this stuff?!? what is the weirdest/funniest thing you ever did with the garnish on your plate at a restaurant.
interesting. well I'm sure somewhere someone cooks with it, but I don't personally! I'm more of an oregano fan ;). and I don't think I really do anything too strange with garnish - I don't generally eat it though!

Twosome: Sage - to whom do you turn for advice? This isn't limited to just one person but could be several different people for different situations.
depends on the advice I'm looking for, and who's around at the time! I generally try to solve most stuff by myself - I'm rather indepenent I guess. but my parents, definitely! and friends too!

Threesome: Rosemary and Thyme - what does the name "Rosemary" mean to you and to what time frame does the memory belong?
I can't say it really means anything much to me! it's just a name (well that, and a herb). I can't even think of any Rosemarys that I know! not particularly well anyway. I think there might be an old family friend somewhere, or perhaps a relative ... but I can't really remember them! stretching the memory a little too far.

Posted by Larina at 1:45 PM on Thursday, 6 June 2002 | Comments (0)

I just received some sad news ... my wonderful hostess Helena has decided that it's time to close rebelrose.net. it's so sad! I love rebelrose! but all good things come to an end at some point I guess. I'm going to miss you girl!! thanks for hosting me over the last 6 months!!

this of course means I'll be looking for a new host! if anyone has any recommendations or suggestions, I'd really appreciate it! I've never actually gone looking for a host before ... until now I've been pretty lucky ... hosts have always found me!

one last change I should mention ... I'm going to start using my hotmail email address again - larinalou@hotmail.com - sorry again for the frequent changes.

new layout! I felt like

Posted by Larina at 12:55 AM on Thursday, 6 June 2002 | Comments (0)

new layout! I felt like something sunshiny ... I don't know why really. this is what I ended up with! sorry again to anyone with 600x800 resolution ... I'm starting to enjoy making use of the larger screen! gives me more room to play =). the picture of the little baby is again one taken by Anne Geddes ... isn't it cute!? I want her talent!! not much else to tell really! let me know what you think =). time for me to get some zzzzzzz!

okay, so I'm a little

Posted by Larina at 4:15 PM on Wednesday, 5 June 2002 | Comments (0)

okay, so I'm a little slow! I bought the Harry Potter DVD like, over a week ago ... and I only just got around to watching the actual film (I was more excited about the extra features ... I'd already seen the film like, 4 times!). anyway ... completely unimpressed!!!!! they don't have widescreen format on the Australian DVD!!!!!!!! I probably should have checked that before I bought it, but hey, who'd have though they'd do something so dodgy!?! so I've been investigating ... and the UK and US versions are both in widescreen!! and I think there's some way of getting a US version that will play on region 4 DVD players, only it costs heaps more!

so now I've got a slight dilemma ... do I try and return the one I've got, and spend even more on getting the widescreen version from overseas, or just deal with the non-widescreen version? non-widescreen is so dodgy!! half the fun of DVD is getting to see the whole movie! I feel like I'm missing so much otherwise! but in reality ... it's still the same movie right? and it's not like I actually have a widescreen tv (well, not yet! and it's not that it really makes all that much difference). arghh!!! such a dilemma!!! I totally want the widescreen version!! whoever is behind this entirely shifty decision deserves to be shot!!

Tuesday This-or-That: 1. Laptop or

Posted by Larina at 2:35 PM on Wednesday, 5 June 2002 | Comments (0)

Tuesday This-or-That:

1. Laptop or desktop computer? I'm lucky! I've actually got both! the first computer I bought was a laptop .. which I love!! use it anywhere, take it everywhere .. it's great! but it's getting really old and slow, so I had to get a new computer earlier this year, and I decided to get a desktop. I can't exactly use it while I'm lying in bed, but it's still great. I love having a big monitor again!! and I can still use my laptop if I really want to.
2. PC or Mac? PC, definitely! I was considering getting a Mac for a while ... but it wouldn't have been compatible with my laptop, and I'm already familiar with PC =).
3. DVD or VHS? DVD!! I love all the extra features!!! and not having to rewind the tape after I watch something! seeing the film in widescreen! being able to skip straight to particular scenes. stuff like that! I've still got a pretty huge VHS collection (mainly stuff recorded off tv), but I only buy or rent DVD now!
4. Cell phone or regular phone? both! I've had a mobile for over 5 years ... couldn't live without it ;). it's on 24/7 and always with me! but I generally make calls on a regular phone if possible. my mobile phone bills are usually dominated SMS messages!!!
5. Satellite or cable TV? cable.
6. X-Box or PlayStation? neither - I hardly even play games on my computer!
7. Netflix or video store? video store - I've never used Netflix! I'm guessing you probably have to live in America. free home-delivery probably doesn't apply here ;).
8. Wide-screen or regular TV? regular ... wide-screen is so not affordable yet =(. I always watch DVDs in the letterbox format though ... the black bars top and bottom don't bother me, I prefer to see the extra stuff you get in wide-screen!
9. Film or digital camera? both!! digital cameras are fantastic ... especially for taking photos at parties and stuff - people photos I guess. but I'd never give up on film entirely! I love my SLR camera ... somehow I feel more creative taking photos with it! and I love getting photos back after they're developed ... especially when the film was in the camera for months!!
10. Dial-up or high-speed internet connection? high-speed! well, when I'm with my parents at least! when I'm by myself I have to go dial-up ... cable is way too expensive for one person!

I'm bored, so I've decided

Posted by Larina at 2:28 PM on Wednesday, 5 June 2002 | Comments (0)

I'm bored, so I've decided to do a few old dailes ... it's not like I ever manage to do the Friday Five on Fridays anyway ... so what's the difference right?

Sunday Seven: Seven books you would like to see turned into films (done correctly, of course)

1. The Tomorrow Series, by James Marsden ... I've even starting casting it ;).
2. Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason ... although I'm not sure how the interview would be best done!
3. Anne of Windy Poplars through to Rilla of Ingleside ... carrying on from the second film, this time true to the books.
4. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire ... so they're already planned, I know! but I still want to see them!
5. Walking the Boundaries, by Jackie French.
6. The Nanny Diaries, by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus ... it would make a cute, funny film!
7. The Hobbit ... I realise it's been done already, but I'd like to see it done again by Peter Jackson and the rest of the cast and crew who worked on the recent Lord of the Rings series.

okay, so I guess technically that's more than seven ... but there's seven books in the Tomorrow Series, so I'd have run out of options after the first choice if I didn't cheat ;).

isn't it strange how the

Posted by Larina at 6:36 PM on Monday, 3 June 2002 | Comments (0)

isn't it strange how the more time you have, the less you actually get done? it seems so ridiculous! totally contradicts logic! *shrugs* but I should be used to it by now ... it's always been that way!

anyway, that's my long winded way of saying that desite the fact I haven't blogged for a number of days ... it certainly doesn't mean I've been doing anything too exciting! unless you consider getting over a cold fun (I don't think so! *rolls eyes*).

however while I'm here, I should mention that I've made a few changes to my site. nothing too much though ... don't get excited! I finally got around to uploading all my photos again, after they mysteriously disappeared off the server. so the photo album should be working again!

same goes for my quotable quotes site, after the joys of envy.nu *sighs*. it's looking rather sad though ... I haven't changed the layout for over 2 years! perhaps my next project? need to find some inspiration though ... and a more interesting title!
